Lori Loughlin Ends Her 28-Year Marriage — The Prenup Could Shape What Happens Next

Posted on September 9, 2026 By wpx_

With one filing in a Los Angeles court, Lori Loughlin turned a private separation into the official end of a 28-year marriage. The 62-year-old “Full House” actress filed for divorce from fashion designer Mossimo Giannulli, 63, in September 2026, citing irreconcilable differences. The couple married on November 27, 1997, and share two adult daughters, Olivia Jade, 26, and Isabella “Bella” Rose, 27. They had reportedly been living apart since late August 2025, although no legal proceedings were announced when their separation became public that October. Their financial lives were already shifting: the pair sold their Hidden Hills mansion for a reported $12.65 million near the end of 2025. Yet the most consequential document in their breakup may not be the divorce petition itself.

The filing arrived shortly after Loughlin returned to Instagram following a seven-year absence, captioning her comeback video, “Here’s to things working out.” Her renewed public presence came as she rebuilt an acting career that had been interrupted by the college admissions scandal. Behind that hopeful message, however, the marriage appeared to have reached a different conclusion. Friends and unnamed sources had previously claimed reconciliation was unlikely, but neither Loughlin nor Giannulli publicly explained what finally ended the relationship. Then the divorce documents pointed to a financial agreement signed before their wedding—and an unexplained change made years later.

Loughlin and Giannulli endured extraordinary public pressure after being accused of paying $500,000 to have their daughters presented as University of Southern California crew recruits, even though neither was a competitive rower. Both eventually pleaded guilty in 2020, with Loughlin serving two months in federal prison and Giannulli receiving a five-month sentence. Their legal troubles affected careers, business interests, investment decisions, and the estate they had built together. Now, an attorney handling the divorce must also consider property ownership, any remaining mortgage obligations, insurance policies, assets, and debts before the court can approve a final settlement. Loughlin has gradually returned to television through projects including “When Hope Calls,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” “Blue Bloods,” and “On Call.” The divorce therefore arrives at a moment when she appears focused on rebuilding both her professional identity and her personal life.

The document at the center of the financial questions is a prenuptial agreement signed on October 28, 1997—one month before the wedding. According to the filing, the couple amended that agreement on August 11, 2015, but public reports have not disclosed precisely what changed. Earlier reporting claimed that the original prenup treated their assets as separate property and that Giannulli was worth more than $100 million when they married, although those details came from unnamed sources rather than the publicly summarized filing. Loughlin has asked for properties, assets, and debts to be divided according to the agreement, while spousal support remains open for later determination and attorney fees must also be addressed. No final amounts have been announced, and the 2015 amendment could influence the eventual outcome. After nearly three decades together, what each spouse walks away with may depend on language they put on paper years before anyone imagined the marriage would end.
