Linda Purl’s life has taken her from childhood performances in Japan to beloved American television roles, Broadway stages, and a later-in-life romance that surprised even her. Born in Greenwich, Connecticut, and raised in Japan, Purl became the only foreign student accepted to train at the Toho Geino Academy. She performed at Tokyo’s Imperial Theatre in productions including The King and I, Oliver, and The Miracle Worker before continuing her studies in England and the United States. Her career eventually brought her to Happy Days, where she first played Gloria, Richie Cunningham’s girlfriend, and later returned as Ashley Pfister, Fonzie’s fiancée. Away from the cameras, she formed a particularly close bond with Heather O’Rourke, who played Ashley’s daughter. Today, their relationship has grown into a shared life filled with acting, travel, music, and their sourdough business, Duffy’s Dough.
