Hollywood Honored Steve Irwin With a Star — His Family’s Tribute Still Resonates

Posted on September 5, 2026 By wpx_

Applause filled Hollywood Boulevard as Steve Irwin’s family gathered beside a newly unveiled star bearing his name. On April 26, 2018, the beloved wildlife expert known worldwide as the “Crocodile Hunter” received a place on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. His wife, Terri Irwin, stood with their children, Bindi and Robert, more than a decade after losing him. Steve was 44 when he passed away in 2006 following injuries sustained during an encounter with a stingray. The honor included no cash prize or dollar amount, but its emotional value to the family was unmistakable. For millions who grew up watching him, the ceremony felt like overdue recognition.

Terri used her speech to explain that Steve believed compassion should extend to every living creature, not only the animals people find attractive or easy to love. She also recalled how he encouraged her to stop postponing meaningful experiences until the children were older, retirement arrived, or life felt more convenient. With Steve beside her, she said, she learned to say yes before doubt could take control. Then Bindi stepped forward to reveal what continuing her father’s work truly meant to their family.

Steve’s television series, The Crocodile Hunter, aired for five seasons from 1997 through 2004 and became Animal Planet’s highest-rated program. After his passing, Terri, Bindi, and Robert continued working through Australia Zoo and supporting wildlife conservation. Their investment was not limited to maintaining a family estate or managing insurance and other financial responsibilities; it was also a commitment to preserve Steve’s message. No attorney or court could define the value of that legacy, and no mortgage statement could measure its reach. Bindi told the Hollywood crowd that carrying her father’s work forward remained deeply important to all three of them.

On September 4, 2026, the 20th anniversary of Steve’s passing, the family shared new personal tributes. Bindi wrote that she once believed her father’s legacy was simply wildlife conservation, but eventually understood that it was love. She added that her 5-year-old daughter, Grace, watches Steve’s documentaries each morning and feels connected to the grandfather she never met. Robert, now 22, posted a childhood photograph of himself in his father’s arms with a simple message declaring that Steve’s legacy would last forever. Terri and Bindi responded warmly, completing a family remembrance that showed why the Hollywood star was only one small symbol of Steve Irwin’s enduring influence.
