Florida Jet Crash Claims Young Pilot, 20 — Her Final Text and Mother’s Heartbreaking Confession

Posted on November 4, 2026 By wpx_

A short message sent during a flight would become one of the most painful memories for a young pilot’s family. Her boyfriend received an update about difficult conditions aboard the aircraft, unaware that a desperate emergency was about to unfold. Moments later, air traffic controllers began receiving increasingly alarming communications from the cockpit. The aircraft was losing altitude rapidly, and repeated attempts to communicate with the crew brought no reassuring response. Far below, residents would soon witness a devastating scene. But beyond the frightening final minutes, there was a much bigger story about a young woman who had spent nearly her entire life working toward one extraordinary dream.Family relationship advice

The flight had initially appeared manageable despite reports of turbulence and ice. The crew requested permission to climb to 37,000 feet after encountering precipitation, but the situation deteriorated within minutes. A MAYDAY call followed, with the pilots reporting an extraordinary descent rate and an overspeed condition. One of the most disturbing reported transmissions included the words, “We’re gonna crash into the ground.” Another voice was later heard apparently reciting part of the Lord’s Prayer. Investigators would need to establish exactly what happened, but the final recordings were only part of the heartbreaking story her family was beginning to share.

The young co-pilot was 20-year-old Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras, whose fascination with aviation began during childhood flights with her father in a small Beechcraft Bonanza. Her mother, Camila Gadelha Corteleti, recalled that Nathalia announced she wanted to become a pilot after one of those early experiences. She began formal lessons in 2020 and earned her private pilot’s license at 17, before she even had a driver’s license. The School District of Palm Beach County’s Aviation Academy helped pay for her license, supporting a dream she had already taken seriously. She later graduated from American Flyers, worked as a flight instructor, and accumulated approximately 1,300 flight hours. By the time of the crash, she had spent nine months working as a commercial pilot and held several professional qualifications, including multi-engine and instrument certifications. Her ambition was to eventually fly for a major airline. Her family said employers admired both her ability and enthusiasm. Meanwhile, the National Transportation Safety Board began examining weather conditions, aircraft systems, maintenance records, and flight communications. Potential insurance claims, estate arrangements, or legal matters could arise from the disaster, but investigators had not established a cause or assigned responsibility.

The Learjet 60 had departed Austin-Bergstrom International Airport at 10:37 a.m. Eastern Time on November 1, 2026, bound for North Eleuthera in the Bahamas. Approximately 10 minutes before the crash, Nathalia reportedly texted her boyfriend, Justin, saying she was experiencing turbulence and ice. At around 12:50 p.m., the aircraft crashed along Military Trail in Palm Beach County, Florida. All nine people aboard, including seven passengers and both pilots, were killed. The impact damaged nearby infrastructure, brought down power lines, and left residents in a nearby mobile home community temporarily displaced. One person on the ground also sustained a leg injury, according to the NTSB. Investigators said evidence suggested some aircraft breakup occurred before impact, but they had not determined what separated or why. They also had not established whether Nathalia was operating the controls during the emergency.

For her mother, the greatest heartbreak was knowing that the daughter she had proudly watched pursue aviation was gone. Camila admitted she had always feared that flying might eventually take Nathalia away from her. “I wanted her to live her dream, but I knew that her dream was going to be the thing that would take her away from me,” she said. Despite that fear, she had supported her daughter’s ambitions and watched her become the professional pilot she had always wanted to be. Camila later reflected that Nathalia had been living her dream, although she wished their family had been given many more years together. Today, her loved ones are remembering more than the final flight. They are remembering the teenager who earned her wings before her driver’s license, the daughter who learned from her father, and the young woman who found her purpose in the sky.
