Nick Reiner, 33, has pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of his parents, filmmaker Rob Reiner and photographer Michele Reiner. Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman announced that prosecutors will not seek the death penalty, meaning Nick could instead face life in prison without the possibility of parole if convicted. Hochman said Nick’s siblings, Jake and Romy Reiner, were consulted before the decision and that their views were taken into consideration.
Rob, 78, and Michele, 70, were found dead in their Brentwood home in December 2025, and Nick was arrested hours later. He was later indicted on two counts of first-degree murder, while his siblings have asked that grand jury records remain sealed to avoid further trauma. The case is expected to go to trial, though prosecutors indicated that proceedings may not begin until 2027.
