Princess Catherine Reveals How Much She Misses Prince George — Inside His New Life at Eton

Posted on October 23, 2026 By wpx_

Princess Catherine’s excitement was unmistakable when she spoke about welcoming her three children home after weeks of school routines and time apart. During a visit to Café 98 in Hoveton, Norfolk, on October 22, 2026, the Princess of Wales shared a heartfelt glimpse into family life that quickly caught royal watchers’ attention. At 13, Prince George has entered a significant new chapter, beginning full-time boarding at Eton College in September. For Catherine and Prince William, the change means adjusting to having their eldest son away for much of the school term, rather than seeing him at home every day. The prince previously attended Lambrook School, where he experienced some boarding, but Eton brings greater independence and responsibility. Now, with his first extended autumn holiday approaching, Catherine has made it clear that having him back under the family roof is something she has been eagerly anticipating.

The personal admission came while Catherine visited the charity shop as patron of East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices. Denise Ashton, 68, later recalled speaking with the princess and told reporters that Catherine was looking forward to George’s return because she had missed him. According to HELLO! Magazine, Catherine also told a young child that her own children would finish school the following day, adding, “My children break up tomorrow and I can’t wait to have them all home.” She hinted that the family might have plans during the break, although no specific destination was confirmed. Meanwhile, a video filmed inside Eton in 2018 has offered a glimpse of the environment George is now experiencing, from individual study bedrooms to communal lounges, an indoor swimming pool, and a large gathering hall. The footage reveals a world quite different from the royal residences he has known since childhood—but what does everyday life at the prestigious school actually demand of its young students?

Eton’s approach to boarding emphasizes independence alongside academic guidance. Each boy has his own study-bedroom, complete with space for sleeping, studying, and keeping personal belongings organized. Students receive support from a House Master and personal Tutor, while the school expects them to manage deadlines, maintain punctuality, and meet academic standards. Its broad introductory curriculum allows pupils to explore different subjects before making further choices as they progress. Reports have also described a disciplinary system known as “rips,” associated with work that falls below expectations. Founded by King Henry VI in 1440, Eton has a long history of educating members of the royal family, including William, who arrived in 1995, and Prince Harry, who followed in 1998. George’s transition therefore connects him to a family tradition while giving him an opportunity to develop his own routines and responsibilities. Just as families make important decisions about education, housing, insurance, and long-term investments, the royal household must also balance practical arrangements with the personal needs of its children, even when public attention surrounds nearly every milestone.

Eton’s Michaelmas term schedule lists its extended autumn break, known as Long Leave, from October 23 through November 8, 2026. The holiday gives George an opportunity to reconnect with William, Catherine, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis before returning to school. His first day at Eton on September 8 was already an emotional milestone, with his parents accompanying him across the college’s historic grounds in the rain. Formal portraits released afterward showed the young prince in his traditional uniform, prompting online discussions about how much he had grown and how closely he resembles his mother. Yet Catherine’s recent comments offered something more personal than another photograph or public appearance: a reminder that behind the royal titles and centuries-old traditions is a mother missing her son. As George becomes more independent, the upcoming holiday promises a welcome chance for the family to enjoy ordinary moments together—and for Catherine to have all three of her children home again.
